Lawrence Mitchell was raised in a family antique furniture business in England and started restoring at the age of 12. He trained under the wing of well established restorers, constantly studying, applying and improving his skills and has gained a profound knowledge of antique furniture, its construction and finishing. After his family moved back to New Zealand in 2003 he started working for notable cabinetmakers (The Woodworks) near Oxford where he made bespoke custom made furniture and antique duplicates and continued his passion of restoring antiques. Whilst at The Woodworks he made commissioned pieces for Blenheim Palace's Churchill Exhibition and a ships deck and canon for the former Dean of Eaton College. He has made and restored furniture for clients in Denmark, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, America and New Zealand.
He moved to Perth in Western Australia in 2005 and started restoring for some of the premier antique centres in Perth and has established a good customer base predominantly through word of mouth.
He specialises in the more intricate and difficult pieces that other restorers are unable to handle.
